NATS (National Apprentice Training Scheme)

National Apprentice Training Scheme was introduced by the Government of India to increase employment opportunities and boost the economic development of the nation.

  • NATS is typically a 1-year program wherein technically equipped students are trained to develop the practical knowledge and skills required in their field of work.
  • They are provided top-notch training in qualified, reputed firms, which could be Central, state or private organizations, having excellent training facilities.

Effective 2021-22 to 2025-26(31/03/2026), the CCEA (Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs) has accorded approval of 3054 crores to apprentices who undergo training under the NATS program.

Because of increasing employment among the youth, as per new rules stated on the official NATS website, effective the NATS program will provide training for graduates not just in technical fields but in general streams such as B.Sc., B.com, and B.A. as well. The period of apprenticeship for these streams could be anywhere between 6 months and 3 years.

Approximately 9 lakhs of apprentices will be imparted formal training by industrial and commercial organizations. Apprentices who have completed graduation and diploma in Science, Engineering, Humanities and Commerce will be paid a NATS-approved revised stipend of Rs.9000/- and Rs.8000/- per month respectively.

Employers undertaking NATS are financially supported by the Government of India.
